Here are the wood-destroying pests you need to watch for.

Termites

Carpenter ants only are an issue when you have standing water somewhere on your property. They always have colonies, with 2–10 being the average number of ants per colony. Carpenter ants can have wings and are of various sizes.

Powder Post Beetles

These nasty critters are especially dangerous because they can survive in and damage wood for up to 11 years. The number-one sign of powder post beetles is small holes in your basement wood.

Carpenter Bees

Carpenter bees can hide anywhere, from decks to porches and eaves. One telltale sign of carpenter bees is a ½-inch entrance hole in your wood.
